Most bakers racks are just wide enough to occupy an optimum space without being awkward. Typically bakers racks measure about 3 feet in width, but the height is left to the manufacturer and the buyer. Where storage is the main criteria, bakers racks are equipped with drawers and compartments or even cabinets tailor made to house the numerous kitchenware that would otherwise clutter up a decent kitchen. Some bakers racks can be wall mounted, but such furniture pieces are rare because people seem to prefer a sturdier version. An addition of shelves into a bakers rack is another great way to create extra space for storing dinner plates or baking trays and other baking accessories.
When shopping for bakers racks, bear in mind that the best selection may just be online. While you may happen on racks in furniture stores, the selection may be extremely limited, or perhaps, non-existent. But online retailers have an endless selection in all styles, materials, colors and price points. Bakers racks run anywhere from $200 and up, depending on the materials, manufacturer and features. Many offer variations on the theme, adding such thoughtful touches as a built in wine rack, a drawer for storing cheese knives and napkins or have doored units below so you can store your favorite household items or seasonal cookware. In fact, these doored units are great for keeping your favorite pie pans and baking items, just in case the mood hits you and you want to tap out a few pies for dinner. But don't be too surprised if you find your bakers racks making their way into other rooms in your home. They work well in a guest room to display knickknacks or in the master to serve as a dressing area. Outdoors, they are terrific in the garden, replacing the traditional and often boring garden center with a more delicate, lovely place to tend to your flowers and plants.
Most kitchens these days have a lot of appliances inside for all sorts of uses. It could be your electronic bread cutter, Panini maker, waffle maker, blender, food processor, can opener or any of a number of other gadgets that help make our cooking time a little bit easier. But you need somewhere to put all of these when you're not cooking. This is what one of the shelves on the Bakers rack can be used for. You can adjust it to the height of the highest appliance and stack the shelf with all of those appliances that are easy to find and see when you need them, but neatly put away for when you don't.
