Don't get carried away though - you just need to meditate on it a bit like what kind of a dining table do you need; since it is the main focus in one's dining room, choosing the right one could be challenging for blooming home decorator like you. Make sure you spend enough time to evaluate the many options you have so you will be happy with the table you buy not only toady but 5 years from now. Sometimes we fall in love with a piece of furniture right away only to find out it really isn't very practical or just doesn't work with the rest of our home. And yes, before you jump the gun on buying the ideal dinette set, you must first take out the measuring tape and see what size or design would best fit your dining room.
Another difference between these two types of dining furniture is that you will not find round or square dining tables very often. The formal dining table is almost exclusively rectangular. However, you will find many kitchen nooks with round or square tables because these rooms are generally smaller and sometimes oddly shaped. It is very common for a nook to be shaped like half of an octagon and stick out away from the house. Or, sometimes the nook is square and sticks out. The square nooks can house a square table or a rectangular one depending on how far you can extend your dining furniture into the kitchen. Finally, there are some materials that you would never find in a dining room that are especially nice for the kitchen. For example, a table top covered in tile. Tiles are extremely easy to clean up after meals because they will not absorb liquids like wood. If you have a table with a tile top, then it would never be used in the dining room since the dining table is almost always covered with a tablecloth and it would be silly to cover the easy to clean surface with something that needs to be washed.
There are many styles of dinette sets as well. One popular style, the drop leaf table, is an old favorite and is quite functional in a small space since the leaves can be put up and down as necessary to make a larger table. Often only having two chairs, this style is perfect for an area along a wall and adds country flair to your kitchen. For more country style with a bit more seating, consider a rectangular table with two chairs on one side, chairs on either end and a bench on the fourth side. Pedestal tables with chairs on casters are a good choice for areas with flooring that will allow the casters to roll easily. There are sets available that look like they could be folded up and stashed in the closet and ones with lots of metal and glass for a very modern accent to any small dining area.
